Most Puissant Grand Master 2016 - 2017

M.Ill. Comp. Terence S. ReadMost Excellent Companion Terence (Terry) Stanley Read was born in Kent England on 26th December 1941, the oldest of five siblings. In his youth he lived in both Malta and France for six years, returning to England when he was fifteen.
He commenced a five-year general engineering apprenticeship with CAV Ltd and attended the Medway College of Technology graduating in 1962 with honours as a Machine Tool Designer. He was also awarded the Shorts Brothers Prize for scholastic achievement. Shortly after completing his apprenticeship Comp. Read was employed by Hobourn Aero Ltd as a special purpose machine tool designer.

There then followed a short term in the British Army in the Royal Engineers where he served in a bomb disposal unit.
In 1967 Comp. Read was hired by Canadair Ltd of Montreal to work in their engineering department however on arriving at Canadair Ltd he was immediately transferred to the Quality Assurance department where he worked on all aspects of Quality Assurance eventually rising to a management position.

In 1971 due to a downturn in the aircraft industry, Comp. Read sought other employment and was hired by Michelin Tire Canada Ltd to work in their Nova Scotia plant in Granton, Pictou County. After spending nine months in the Michelin management training school in France he returned to Canada in a management position in the Quality Control department. Three years later he was transferred to the plant-engineering group, eventually rising to a management position. He retired in 1996 after 25 years’ service.

He then worked as a consultant engineer for two companies before retiring completely in 1998. 

He then worked as a contract volunteer with the Children's Aid Society working with foster children. When CAS was taken over by the Nova Scotia government he became a full time employee and eventually retired again in 2014.

Most Ex. Comp. Read met his best friend and partner in life, Diana in 1957 and they married in 1962. They have two children, Caroline and Andrew and are very proud of their six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.  Their roots in Canada are firmly established.

In his youth Comp. Read was an avid sportsman participating in soccer, athletics and boxing. On his arrival in Canada he continued to play soccer and eventually became involved in league management and served as the President of the Metropolitan Soccer league and as Chairman of the Discipline Committee of the National Soccer League in Montreal. In 1968 whilst on a winter photography expedition in the Laurentians. Comp. Read was introduced to the sport of Luging. He fell in love with the sport and was the Canadian Singles champion in 1969 and 1970 and was a member of the Canadian Men’s Doubles Championship Team in 1970,

Most Ex. Comp. Read now spends his time between his home in Westville and his summer home on the shores of Merigomish Harbour. He likes to kayak, wilderness hike and makes the occasional camping trip. He is an avid reader, a wood carver and is a Masonic researcher and writer of masonic lectures.

Most Ex. Comp. Terence Read was raised in Western Star Lodge #50 AF & AM Westville Nova Scotia on the 12th April 1977. He served as Worshipful Master in 1983 and was secretary of his Lodge for eight years. He is also a charter member of Loge la France #138 AF 7 AM, serving as Master in 2007, 2013 and 2014 and has been the Treasurer for twelve years. In 2008 – 2009 Comp. Read served as the District Grand Director of Ceremonies for Pictou County District. He is the Grand Representative of the Grand Lodge of San Marino.

Most Ill. Comp. Read was exalted in Mount Lebanon Chapter #14 New Glasgow Nova Scotia on 17th June 1981. He served as Most Excellent High Priest in 1985 and was secretary of his Chapter for two years. Comp. Read is also a member of St. John’s Chapter #8, Pictou. He was appointed Grand Master of the 3rd Veil in 1986. In 2005 – 2007 Comp. Read was the District Grand Superintendent for District #2. He has served on the Board of General Purposes of Grand Chapter either as an appointed or elected member since 2002 and was Chairman of the Audit Committee for three years. He is the Grand Representative of the Grand Chapter of Idaho to the Grand Chapter of Nova Scotia. He was elected to the office of Grand Scribe in 2007, Grand King in 2008 and Grand High Priest in 2009.

Most Ex. Comp. Read is also a member of Orient Council #5 New Glasgow and received the Select Master Degree on 4th December 1985 and the Royal Ark Mariner and the Super Excellent Master Degrees on 11th November 1987. He served as Thrice Illustrious Master in 1993. He was Recorder for one year and also served as Treasurer for a number of years.
He is a member of Cobequid Lodge Royal Ark Mariners.

Comp. Read served as the Inspector General for Nova Scotia for the Supreme Grand Council Royal and Select Eastern Jurisdiction of Canada in 2006, as Grand Captain of the Guard in 2013, the Principal Conductor of the Works in 2014, the Deputy Grand Master in 2015 and was installed as the Most Puissant Grand Master in 2016. He is the Grand Representative of the Grand Council of North Dakota.
Comp. Read is a member of Malta Preceptory #27 New Glasgow, Nova Scotia and received the Order of the Temple on 27th April 1985. He has served as Preceptor.

He is also a member of; 

Royal William Conclave #32, Red Cross of Constantine in New Glasgow.
Eastern Canada Priory #19 Knight of the York Rite Cross of Honour
Ceilidh Chapter #10 OES.

Comp. Read is a member of Philae Temple A.A.O.N.M.S and was a member of the clown unit and served as boss clown for many years.
